Norway limits public access to Middle East, North Africa embassies

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Norway’s Foreign Ministry says it has restricted to 15 of its embassies in the and Africa, including its post in Saudi Arabia.

The move follows the decision by the U.S. to close diplomatic posts in 19 cities in the amid a major was in the works. Britain and Germany have also closed their embassies in Yemen.

Frode said Monday that Norway’s embassies are still accepting and emails but that public access to the has been restricted.

Andersen says the measures are based on an assessment of the “general threat level.”

He says officials will monitor the security situation to decide how long access will be restricted, but declined to give further information.
