‘Voice of the Edmonton Oilers’ inducted into Alberta Sports Hall of Fame

EDMONTON – The man known as the “Voice of the ” has been inducted into the .

In a ceremony in Red Deer Friday evening, was honoured with the Bell Memorial Award for media.

Phillips called 3,542 games during the span of his career as a play-by-play guy, including the Oilers five Stanley Cup Final championships.

The Oilers retired a banner with the number 3,542 on it in his honour, which now hangs in the rafters at Rexall Place.

In 2003, Phillips was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, where he was presented with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, in recognition of members of the radio and television industry who made outstanding contributions to their profession and the game during their career in hockey broadcasting.

, who was the head coach of the University of Alberta Gold Bears basketball team for more than 20 years, was also inducted into the Alberta Hall of Fame Friday.
