Major roadworks continue on Champlain Bridge

MONTREAL – Major roadworks have again been scheduled for the this weekend.

Part of the plan is to start installing the new structural beam that will replace the temporary .

The was supposed to be put in place during the Victoria Day long weekend, but were delayed due to high winds.

The bridge will be reduced to two lanes towards Montreal and one towards the South Shore from Friday 9 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.

Some access ramps and exits will also be closed.

Representatives from the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. were unable to say whether or not the new beam will be completely installed by the end of this weekend.

If it is not removed this weekend, it will be done during the next work blitz on June 14 and 15.

The super beam was put in place last fall after several cracks were found underneath the bridge.

Commuters are being urged to use one of the other bridges or the Lafontaine tunnel.
