Dead at Noon: Memories built upon the rocks

A set of stairs that still smell of fresh woodcuts twist and rise up the back of a large rock formation that Jonathan Bennett calls the Himalayas. Jonathan, 85, stops part way up to appreciate the local carpenter’s design, the way the stairs are nestled into the natural curve of the stone, how one moment your foot is on a stair, and the next moment your foot is on the stone. The stairs seem to rise right out of the rock face, stone and stairs interwoven, a seamless feat of craftsmanship, connecting the enduring with the temporal.
