B.C. family mourns drowned Syrian refugee boy trying to get to Canada

The father of the drowned little boy whose searing image has become the symbol for the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe said he tried to do everything he could to save his family. Abdullah Kurdi told his sister Teema Kurdi, a Coquitlam resident, by phone that he was unable to Aylan, 3, Gulip, 5 or his wife Reham after their boat flipped as they were trying to reach the Greek island of Kos.
