Shelly Fralic: September — the other new year

For some, new beginnings are synonymous with Jan. 1, the much-celebrated first day of the first month of every new year, when seasonal holidays end and turkey is but a leftover, when all those resolutions are made with so much conviction and purpose. For there’s nothing quite like a fresh start, especially when it can be charted on a calendar, and thus provide a real-time reminder of the day when one’s personal resolve might be to look ahead instead of back, to follow a better health routine or simply listen to one’s heart instead of one’s head.
