EXCLUSIVE: Report involving health ministry scandal accuses fired researcher of conflict of interest

VICTORIA — One of the fired researchers in a long-running health ministry scandal was in a conflict of interest as part of plans to hire her husband, a controversial internal government investigation alleges. A report by B.C.’s comptroller general’s office obtained by The Vancouver Sun said Rebecca Warburton, who at the time was a co-director in the ministry’s pharmaceutical branch and also an associate UVic professor, was in an actual conflict as part of plans to hire her husband, Bill Warburton, to do contracted government research in 2012.
